Biography

Since his earliest years, Neil Lane has maintained a vivid studio practice of making art, a rich creative outlet for the designer’s unbridled energy and expansive vision.   In his luminous and dazzling works, images come in and out of view, revealing themselves over time through patient viewing.  Their surfaces are streaked with brilliant rays of glinting metallic leaf, partly occluding the visual treasures beneath.  Rhythms of whirlwind energy and gesture animate the compositions, and suggest—in the great tradition of the Abstract Expressionists–the presence of the artist in a kind of emotionally rich self-portrait.
